Bias In Medical Research: Types, Classification, Sources And Control Measures: Review (2)

In the second part of this review on bias as a source of systematic error in medical research, types of bias, their major characteristics and sources as well as control measures are presented in detail. Readers are familiarized with methods of detecting the direction of error (if bias does indeed exist), and potential measures to prevent or control bias are presented.
To this end, topics discussed are points to be considered in literature reviews and during the planning stages of research, potential sources of bias that may be encountered while conducting research (including data collection), as well as an overview of threats to validity during data analysis that may influence the interpretation of results and subsequent inferences.Keywords: Bias, epidemiology, biomedical researchTurkiye Klinikleri J Med Sci 2005, 25:280-288
