aDermatoloji AD, bEnfeksiyon Hastalıkları ve Mikrobiyoloji AD, cPatoloji AD, Uludağ Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi, BURSA Orf is a viral infection transmitted from sheep and goats. The clinical presentation of this disease, frequently seen in farmers, advances through 6 stages, each lasting for about a week before spontaneous healing takes place. Red, weeping nodules, mostly localized on the fingers, may be accompanied by malaise, sub-febrile fever, lymphangitis and regional lymphadenopathy.
There are only two reports of orf virus infection in pregnancy in the literature. We present the first case report of a pregnant woman in her first trimester having an orf infection. In addition, the literature regarding orf virus infection in pregnancy is discussed.
We conclude that the lack of demonstrable effect on fetal development suggests that significant viremic spread is not an inevitable result of orf infection during pregnancy. Keywords: Pregnancy, orf virusTurkiye Klinikleri J Med Sci 2005, 25:137-139
