Klippel-feil Syndrome With Sprengel Deformity And Omovertebral Band: A Case Report

aRadyoloji Kliniği, Ankara Numune Hastanesi, ANKARA Klippel-Feil syndrome (KFS) is a congenital malformation characterized by insufficient segmentation of two or more cervical vertebrae. This syndrome is often accompanied by various systemic anomalies. We illustrate a case of KFS accompanied by an omovertebral band and Sprengel deformity using 3-dimensional computerized tomography (3D-CT).
A fifteen year-old patient was admitted to our clinic with cervical vertebral fusion between C5 and 7 vertebrae as seen on conventional cervical imaging studies. On subsequent axial and 3D-CT, fusion defects on the posterior C1, between C2 and C3 (resulting in a block vertebral appearance), as well as fusion of the corpus, left transverse process and spinous processes of the C5-7 vertebrae were noted. The right scapula was in a higher position with respect to the left scapula and bony septa were observed between scapula and cervical vertebra.
Skeletal system anomalies may accompany KFS. In this situation, 3D-CT images can provide more detailed information than that achievable through conventional imaging studies. Keywords: Klippel-Feil syndrome, abnormalities, tomography, X-ray computedTurkiye Klinikleri J Med Sci 2005, 25:118-120
