However, the length and clarity of questionnaires and the amount of time needed to complete them often limit their use in clinical practice. In this study, we aimed to evaluate the results of the Mini-Osteoporosis Quality of Life Questionnaire (Mini-OQLQ) on patients without vertebral fractures.
Material and Methods: One hundred and sixty-three postmenopausal osteoporotic women with a mean age of 58.85 ± 8.37 were included in this study. Sixty-two women without osteoporosis admitted with various locomotor system complaints whose mean age was 55.60 ± 7.56 years formed the control group. The Mini-OQLQ was completed by both groups.
Results: No significant correlation was determined regarding age, number of births, duration of menopause and Mini-OQLQ scores in osteoporotic patients. (p= 0.38 versus r= 0.07, p= 0.369 versus r= -0.074, p= 0.929 versus r= -0.007, respectively). However, Mini-OQLQ scores were statistically negatively correlated with BMI (p= 0.018 versus r= -0.19). No significant correlation was determined regarding age, number of births, duration of menopause and Mini-OQLQ scores in the control subjects (p= 0.668 versus r= -0.057, p = 0.636 versus r= -0.067, p= 0.367 versus r= 0.130, p= 0.942 versus r= 0.01, respectively).
Conclusion: The Mini-OQLQ was not effective in discriminating postmenopausal osteoporotic women without vertebral fractures from non-osteoporotic postmenopausal controls. Keywords: Osteoporosis, quality of lifeTurkiye Klinikleri J Med Sci 2005, 25:36-40
