aPatoloji AD, bÜroloji AD, Cumhuriyet Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi, SİVAS Inflammatory pseudotumors that involve the urinary bladder mimic malignant tumors both clinically and histologically. They have been described under a variety of names such as pseudosarcomatous myofibroblastic proliferation, pseudomalignant spindle cell proliferation in addition to inflammatory pseudotumor as well.
A 68-year-old male was presented with gross hematuria and a history of bladder-transurethral resection before four months in this report. Histologically, the lesion consisted of spindle cells of uniform sizes and shapes, proliferating in regularly running bundles, but no prominent nuclear atypia, pathologic mitosis and necrosis was found. Immunohistochemically, these cells shown unexpectedly positive expression for cytokeratin and epithelial membrane antigen as well as vimentin and smooth muscle actin. Bladder’s inflammatory tumours must be distinguished in particular from spindle cell carcinoma, leiomyosarcoma and urothelial neoplasm with a pseudosarcomatous stromal reaction. To avoid an erroneous diagnosis and therapy, recognition of this antity is important. Keywords: Bladder, inflammatory pseudotumor, diagnosisTurkiye Klinikleri J Med Sci 2004, 24:697-701
