bDepartment of Ophthalmology, Mannheim, GERMANY The aim of this report is to demonstrate the value of ocular coherence tomography (OCT) for the monitoring of age-related macular degeneration (AMD) and the effects of repeated photodynamic therapy (PDT). Sequential stereo color films, angiograms and OCT scans of a patient with AMD were compared over 15 months, during which PDT was applied 4 times.
The stereo photos and the angiograms remained relatively unchanged over 15 months. OCT, however, demonstrated significant changes in retinal structure and provided evidence of the positive effect of PDT in the treatment of AMD. OCT can provide relevant information for the application of PDT as well as serve as an adjuvant tool for demonstrating its effects in the treatment of AMD.Keywords: Age-related maculopathychoroidal neovascularization, photodynamic therapyTurkiye Klinikleri J Med Sci 2004, 24:683-688
