****** MSc., Hacettepe Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi, Biyoistatistik AD, ANKARA Purpose: To present, a new computer adapted color blindness test and explain its reliability and value of practical application.
Materials and Methods: Farnsworth-Munsell 100 Hue and Holmgren tests had been modified and adapted to computer application. Ishihara test is assumed to gold standard in the diagnosis of color blindness. Therefore according to Ishihara test results subjects classified into two groups as Group I colorblind 13 subjects, twelve men and one woman (aged between 19-29 years, median 21), and Group II, control group with 13 subjects eight men and five women (aged between 19-28 years, median 22). In order to investigate color sensitivity in this two groups all subjects were tested with both FM 100 test and Computer Adapted Color Blindness Test. These tests and computer adapted method results were compared with appropriate statistical methods.
Results: The error scores of FM 100 Hue test and Computer Adapted test in two groups were analyzed statistically, by using with independent samples t-test. The difference between two groups were statistically significant in both of them (p<0.01). It is found that cut-off error score was 23 points for New Computer Adapted test by using with Receiver operating characteristic curve (ROC). According to cut-off error score of 23, this new test is 100% sensitivity and 100% specifity.
Conclusion: The cut-off error score of this new computer adapted color blindness test is 23 points. The sensitivity and specifity of this value were found for diagnosis of color blindness of 100% of each. Keywords: Color Vision Defects, ComputersTurkiye Klinikleri J Med Sci 2003, 23:120-128
