Current Position Of Immunobiological Agents In The Treatment Of Allergic Diseases
Dr.Taşkın ŞENTÜRKa
aİç Hastalıkları AD, İmmunoloji BD, Adnan Menderes Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi, AYDIN It has proved to be very difficult to develop new classes of anti-allergic and anti-asthma therapies, partly because existing drugs, particularly inhaled corticosteroids, are so effective. However, there is a need to develop new treatments for asthma, since patients with severe asthma are not well controlled on doses of corticosteroids that are safe. Currently, there are several drugs in development for allergic diseases. Some of these include immunobiological agents such as inhibitors of proinflammatory cytokines (stimulators of anti-inflammatory cytokines), anti-IgE antibodies, adhesion molecule blockers and chemokine inhibitors. The aim of this article is to review the newer immunobiological treatments for allergic diseases. Keywords: Allergy, asthmaTurkiye Klinikleri J Med Sci 2004, 24:518-524
