aDermatoloji AD, bPatoloji AD, Mersin Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi, MERSİN Verrucous discoid lupus erythematosus (DLE) is a rare form of chronic cutaneous lupus erythematosus resembling keratoacanthoma or hypertrophic lichen planus. It may occur on the extensor aspects of the arms, the upper back, and the face. We present a case of verrucous DLE manifested by skin lesions resembling cutaneous leishmaniasis (CL). A 26-year-old woman presented with a verrucous plaque localized on the face that was diagnosed as CL, and which did not respond to a three-month glucantime therapy. Skin examination revealed a sharply demarcated, erythematous plaque on the face with a diameter of 5 x 5 cm, consisting of a central verrucous portion and an erythematous, indurated border covered by adherent scales. Histopathologic examination of the lesion was consistent with DLE. In conclusion, verrucous DLE should be considered in the differential diagnosis of CL, as well as other skin diseases manifested by hypertrophic skin lesions, as the disease is frequently seen in particular regions of our country. Keywords: Discoid lupus erythematosus, verrucous, leishmaniasisTurkiye Klinikleri Tıp Bilimleri 2004, 24:562-564
