Evaluation Of Perceptıon And Information Among First-time Recipients Of Hormone Replacement Therapy At Kırşehir Maternal Hospital

Objective: The study was undertaken to evaluate the perceptions and level of information in women presenting in the obstetric polyclinic with menopausal complaints and for whom hormone replacement therapy ( HRT) was prescribed.
Material and Methods: Women presenting in the obstetric polyclinic for menopause during a three-month period were randomly included in the study group (n=150). The data was collected via questionnaire form using the face-to-face interview technique, and analyzed with SPSS.
Results: The majority of the women in the study group were between 46-50 years of age, primary school educated, married and unemployed. The main symptoms at presentation were “feeling hot”, sweating, tension, boredom, extreme irritability, and forgetfulness during the course of the menstrual period.
Conclusion: Most of the study group indicated that they had known that HRT was applied during menopause and that they had received this information from their friends and relatives as well as through media communications. It was revealed that the majority of the study group had been planning to continue HRT according to doctor’s advice. Most of the study group reported that they were aware of the importance of sports, exercise and walking, and that they had received related information from physicians in the polyclinic.Keywords: Consultancy, hormone replacement therapy, menopause, women’s healthTurkiye Klinikleri J Med Sci 2004, 24:350-356
