Medial plantar fasciocutaneous flap based on the medial plantar vessels has been used for reconstruction of ankle and foot defects. Covering of soft tissue defects on this region is very difficult , because of less number of local flaps, necessity of durable and sensitive flaps and same soft tissue components to the original tissue . Medial plantar flap was chosen in the reconstructive technique for foot defects of 18 patients. Soft tissue defect sizes varied from 3x2 cm. to 8x5 cm. Two patients had total and partial flap necrosis . The patients were seen postoperatively in 6 months to 3 years. We noted that this flap would be a good alternative method for reconstruction of soft tissue defects of foot and ankle.
