Twenty-five rabbits were divided into five groups of five rabbits each. First group was considered as control group and given only anesthetics. Second group was used as test group for Extracorporeal Shock Wave Lithotripsy (ESWL). To the third, fourth and fifth groups, ESWL was induced with verapamil, allopurinol and indomethacin consequently. 7 days after treatment with ESWL and drugs, rabbit sacrificed and kidneys inverstigated histopathologically. There wasn’t any histopathological change in renal tissues of the first group, subcapsular hematoma, intersitial hemorrhagie, tubular dilatation, and inflammatory infiltration were seen in the other groups. In conclusion, no protective effects of verapamil, allopurinol and indomethacin on renal tissue damage following ESWL were seen.
