Staging findings on computed tomography were compared with surgical-pathological results in 35 cases of gastric cancer. In these cases; adenopathies, hepatic metastases, tumoral invasions of pancreas, serosal surface, and omentum were evaluated with computed tomography. Sensitivities of computed tomography in detecting adenopathies and serosal invasion are respectively 73% and 84%, whereas this ratio is 76% for pancreatic invasion and 33% for omental invasion. Demonstration of adenopathies and omental invasion are the most commonly encountered causes of false negative evaluation for gastric cancer. Computed tomography is usually overestimated the stages in gastric cancer and helical CT and two-phase dynamic CT should be preferred.
