Radiologic Diagnosis And Follow Up A Case Ofnormocalcemic And Normophosphatemic Hyperparathyroidism

A 33 years old female patient was admitted with complaining lower back pain and artralgia in the bilateral knee joints of 2 years duration. The serum calcium and phosphate concentrations were normal whereas the serum PTH concentration and urinary hydroxipyroline excretion and serum alkaline phosphatase activity were increased. Bone X-ray examination showed severe osteopenia. A parathyroid mass was demonstrated by US and CT scan. Surgicla exploration of the neck revealed mass. After parathyroidectomy, all the abnormal biochemical, clinical and radiological findings gradually normalized and the patient has been doing well without any symptoms for the last 6 months. Careful interpratation of CT and US is necessary in the diagnosis of co-existing asymphomatic hyperparathyroidism.
