The Comparison Of The Effects Of Levocabastine And Astemizole In Treatment Of Allergic Rhinitis

In this study, the efficacy of two drugs (topically used levocabastine and systemically used astemizole were compared. Investigation included 40 patients, aged 16 to 55 years, admitted to Gülhane Medical Academy, Department of Allergic Diseases and diagnosed with ALlergic Rhinitis.
The patients were divided into two twenty-patient groups. The first group patients were given levocabatine nasal sprays plus placebo tablets and the rest, astemizole tablets plus placebo nasal sprays. A statistically significant decrease was observed in symptom scores in each group after the treatment (p<0.01). But it was also observed that both drugs have no effect on nasal obstruction. Both symptom and treatment results were evaluated and no difference between groups were detected.
