Myocardial Infarction In Ken Under 25 Years Of Age

The results of the coronary angiographies, echocardiographies and risk factors in men under 25 years of age hospitalized in Gülhane Military Medical Academy Cardiology Department, with a diagnosis of myocardial infarction were evaluated in this study.
The study consisted of 10 young men. Their ages were between 20 and 25 with a mean age of 21.9±2.2 years. Of our cases, only one patient had two-vessel disease (10%) detected in one case. Three patients had an aneurysmal dilatation consistent with the site of infarction (33.3%). No collateral circulation was detected at any of the patients except two. Of the identified risk factors, the most prominent was cigarette-smoking (80%), followed by family tendency, high cholesterol and triglyceride levels.
As a result, we concluded that smokers with a family predisposition to ischemic heart diseases (IHD) had high risk for IHd at a very young age and this must be considered in evaluation of these patients.
