Vomiting is seen generally after strabismus surgery in children. A double blind and randomized study was done on 51 patients aged from 1.5 years to 3 years who underwent strabismus surgery under general anaesthesia at Hospital of Ankara Medicine Faculty. Entubation was performed with succinylcholin in children who inducted by mask anaesthesia or IV anaesthetics. Maintenance of anaesthesia was carried out with 50% H2, 50% N2O and 1.5% Halothane.
The children randomized one of the three study groups including 2 ml phsiologic isotonic saline solution, 0.25 mg/kg metaclopramide and 0.075 mg/kg droperidol respectively. THe prevalance of vomiting range was determined 53% 17% and 21% respectively. There was statistical difference between the control group and the therapeutic groups (p<0.05). Except the droperidol has sommolans effect at early postoperative period, we did not see any extrapramidal side effects or ajitation. However there is no statistical difference between droperidol and metoclopramide, metoclopramide seem to be more effective and has less side effects in preventing vomiting in children.
