The Value Of Surgery In The Treatment Of Hyperthyroidism

The indications of surgical treatment of patients with hyperthyroidism have been narrowed since the last 20 years. This has resulted from the increased comfort with alternative treatment modes. However thyroidectomy also has certain advantages, and is stil the treatment of choice in selected cases of hyperthyroidism. In experienced hands and with a proper preoperative preparation, surgery in hyperthyroidism has extremely low risk.
