Erythrocyte Catalase Activity In Type Ii Diabetes Mellitus Patients

In the present study, erythrocyte catalase activity of patients with type II diabetes mellitus and healthy controls were investigated. Patients consisted of 39 subjects (20 male, 19 female) aged between 36 and 70 years and controls consisted of 40 subjects (18 male, 22 female) aged between 35 and 66 years.
Erythrocyte catalase activity of the patients was significantly decreased compared to that of healthy controls (p<0.05). This significant alteration was thought to be one of the reasons of the erythrocyte susceptibility to oxidative damage.
