aDermatoloji AD, bPatoloji AD, GATA, ANKARA Diffuse cutaneous mastocytosis (DKM) is a rare form of cutaneous mastocytosis that usually appears in children and less frequently in adults. It is characterized by popular, nodular and infiltrated leathery skin manifestations that are a consequence of diffuse mast-cell infiltration. Darier’s sign and dermographism are generally positive. Pruritus is the most common symptom. We present a case of DKM appearing in adolescence.
A 20-year old male presented with disseminated minute, red papules with a life-long history of same. Physical examination revealed these dermal manifestations as well as infiltrated leathery lesions on the trunk, back, and extremities without systemic sign or symptom. Darier’s sign and dermographism were present. In keeping with these clinical manifestations and histopathological findings, DKM was diagnosed. The case was presented for rarity of the disease generally and for being the first case report of such in the literature of Turkish Dermatology. Keywords: Mastocytosis, PUVATurkiye Klinikleri J Med Sci 2004, 24:178-181
