Radiological Findings Of Scimitar Syndrome:original Image
Dr. Şerife ULUSAN, a Dr. Fahri TERCANa
a Radyoloji Bölümü, Başkent Üniversitesi Adana Eğitim ve Araştırma Merkezi, ADANA Scimitar syndrome is a rare congenital anomaly involving an anomalous connection of the pulmonary vein with the inferior vena cava instead of the left atrium. It may be accompanied with hypoplasia of the right lung with bronchial abnormalities, dextra position of the heart and systemic arterial supply to the lung. Anomalous veins rarely drain to the left atrium or sinus coronaries. There may be anomalies of the bronchial supply to the right lung; therefore, sequestration is frequently present. Radiologically, this anomalous vein appears as a scimitar-like shadow (Turkish Swords) on chest x-ray, and runs from the middle of the right lung to the cardiophrenic angle. In our case report, we presented the plain radiography, computed tomography and pulmonary angiography findings of this anomalous vein. Keywords: Bronchopulmonary sequestration, pulmonary veins, radiology, scimitar syndromeTurkiye Klinikleri J Med Sci 2008, 28:104-106
