bİç Hastalıkları AD, Kocaeli Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi, KOCAELİ Tumor lysis syndrome (TLS) due to the use of fludarabine, a well known adenosine deaminase inhibitor, has been reported very rarely in patients with chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL). Generally; TLS happens to occur after the first course of chemotherapeutics.
In the present report, we describe a 70 year-old patient with a diagnosis of CLL nearly 7 years ago, who developed a severe acute renal failure after the third course of fludarabine treatment, resulting in TLS with a dramatic rise in serum phosphorus (32 mg/dl) and uric acid levels (46 mg/dl). Intensive hemodialysis treatment a meliorated the clinical course of renal failure within 7 days.
This case reminds us that TLS develop even after the third course of chemotherapautics in patients with CLL.Keywords: Chronic lymphocytic leukemia, fludarabine, tumor lysis syndromeTurkiye Klinikleri J Med Sci 2004, 24:98-100
