a3. İç Hastalıkları Kliniği, Ankara Numune Eğitim ve Araştırma Hastanesi, ANKARA In diabetic patients, infection is the most common cause of diabetic ketoacidosis. Usually, the origin of the infection is determined easily; but, atypical infections may be seen rarely and clinical signs and symptoms may be silent. In this report, we present a case of diabetic ketoacidosis who was admitted to the hospital with the complaints of nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. After the further investigations, we determined spinal epidural abscess to be the triggering factor. The patient recovered completely after the abscess’ drainage and appropriate antibiotic therapy. In diabetic patients, it is important to consider that the infections may have an obscure progress and it is essential to establish the diagnosis and determine the treatment immediately. Keywords: Diabetic ketoacidosis; epidural abscessTurkiye Klinikleri J Med Sci 2007, 27:805-806
