MDA is a marker of lipid peroxidation associated with oxidative stress. This study aimed to investigate the relation of serum CRP and MDA with colon cancer.
Material and Methods: The study comprised 35 colon cancer patients and 30 healthy controls. Serum CRP was measured using Behring Nephlometer analyzer 100 while MDA was measured in a spectrophotometer based of its reaction with thiobarbitruic acid and the development of red color.
Results: Serum CRP and MDA levels were higher in colon cancer patients than those of controls and they were statistically significant.
Conclusion: As in other diseases, CRP and MDA are elevated in colon cancer and most probably associated with oxidative reactions and tiusse damage involved in the pathology of colon cancer. Keywords: Colonic neoplasms; C-reactive protein (164-173); oxidative stressTurkiye Klinikleri J Med Sci 2007, 27:13-15
