Neonatal Thrombosis And Treatment: Review

Neonatal thromboembolic events have unique characteristics that differ from those seen in children and adults. Factors such as umbilical catheters, congenital heart disease, polycythemia, renal diseases, dehydration, septicemia, necrotizing enterocolitis, perinatal asphyxia, and respiratory distress syndrome may lead to trombus formation. The improvement of survival in newborn intensive care units due to supportive measures resulted with an increase in early and long-term complications of these tertiary care precautions.
