a3. Genel Cerrahi Kliniği, Atatürk Eğitim ve Araştırma Hastanesi, İZMİR Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate major morbidity, mortality and survival in advanced stage gastric cancer patients who underwent combined resections due to local invasion.
Material and Methods: Twenty-five patients with advanced gastric carcinoma underwent combined organ resections in the Third Surgical Clinic of Atatürk Training and Research Hospital in İzmir, between January 1997 and March 2004. Survival rates were calculated according to the Kaplan-Meier method and the differences were compared with the log-rank test.
Results: Combined resections represent 17.2% (25/145) of all gastric resections in our department. Postoperative major morbidity and mortality were 24% and 16%, respectively. The overall survival rate of all advanced gastric carcinoma patients was 19.05%.
Conclusion: R0 resection was the only factor that improved survival significantly (p= 0.000).Keywords: Stomach neoplasms, disease-free survival, gastrectomyTurkiye Klinikleri J Med Sci 2006, 26:514-521
