aGöğüs Hastalıkları AD, bKBB AD, Harran Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi, ŞANLIURFA bjective: The aim of this study was to determine the aeroallergen sensitivity of allergic rhinitis patients.
Material and Methods: Our objective was to determine the etiology of allergic rhinitis in Şanlıurfa and accordingly we performed a skin test by the prick method. The measured aeroallergen sensitivities were evaluated.
Results: The prick test results for 60 patients [33 females, 27 males; mean age 30.4 ± 5.8 (15-41)] with allergic rhinitis were evaluated. Prick tests yielded positive results in 45 (75%) patients. Thirteen (28.9%) of these had a positive reaction to only one allergen and the remaining 32 (71.1%) had a positive reaction to more than one allergen. Eight (17.8%) responded positively to house dust mites, 30 (66.7%) to grass pollens, 9 (20%) to tree pollens, 14 (31.1%) to cereal pollens, 6 (13.3%) to weed pollens, and 10 (22.2%) to cockroach.
Conclusions: The most common allergen in patients with allergic rhinitis in Şanlıurfa seems to be grass pollens. Keywords: Allergic rhinitis, allergensTurkiye Klinikleri J Med Sci 2006, 26:370-374
