Recurrent Aphthous Stomatitis: Medical Education

Recurrent aphthous stomatitis (RAS) is a very common condition with the exact etiology unclear. Symptomatic treatment is the only one available so far. RAS has an immunogenetic background and a group of RAS patients may have some accompanying diseases such as hematinic deficiencies like iron, folate, and vitamin B12, allergy and some systemic diseases. Treatment of RAS should include elimination of predisposing factors if present, and topical corticosteroids and/or combination regimens.
