Pyoderma Gangrenosum After Coronary Artery Bypass Surgery: A Case Report

aKalp-Damar Cerrahisi AD, Gazi Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi, ANKARA We present a case of pyoderma gangrenosum after median sternotomy and coronary artery bypass grafting procedure. The patient is a 54-year-old man who underwent coronary artery bypass grafting of four vessels. His medical history had no underlying systemic illness. At postoperative day 4th, the patient developed a rapid dermal necrosis along the midsternal and saphenous insicion. The sternum was stable to examination. The maximum body temperature of the patient was 38.4ºC; multiple microbiological stains and cultures for bacteria and fungi remained negative. The Department of Dermatology obtained two peripheral wound biopsy specimens. The diagnosis of pyoderma gangrenosum was made with morphological and histopathological features, and high-dose corticosteroid therapy was instituted.Keywords: Pyoderma, coronary artery bypassTurkiye Klinikleri J Med Sci 2006, 26:211-213
