Obstructive Jaundice Due To Biliary Tumor Thrombus In Hepatocellular Carcinoma: A Case Report

Tumor thrombus in the extrahepatic biliary tree is a rare mechanism of obstructive jaundice. We present a patient with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) in the right and left hepatic lobes invading the common bile duct and causing biliary obstruction. A 69-year old man who had been diagnosed at another hospital as obstructive jaundice was referred to our hospital because of progressive jaundice. At operation, a tumor measuring 5.0 x 6.0 cm was found in the segment 8 of the right liver lobe and 2.0 x 2.0 cm in the segment 2 of the left liver lobe. Histologically, the bile duct tumor was diagnosed as HCC in frozen section examination.
