aII. Plastik-Rekonstrüktif ve Estetik Cerrahi Kliniği, SB Ankara Eğitim ve Araştırma Hastanesi, ANKARA Nasal valve surgery is a special topic that is gradually gaining importance with time. Besides obtaining a good aesthetic result, the aim of an ideal rhinoplasty should be to preserve the nasal airway or correct the problems. However, a considerable number of valve problems are seen after a rhinoplasty operation.
Respiration is the most important function of the nose. Nasal physiology can be defined by well-known laws of physics. Nasal valve obstruction is the result of disruption of the nasal valve angle or narrowing of the valve area and is a very important cause of chronic nasal obstruction.
In order to identify the problems that will benefit from surgical intervention, obstruction must be classified as static or dynamic. A very good history and physical examination is mandatory to choose from an array of surgical techniques. Rhinomanometry and acoustic rhinometry are ancillary, though not obligatory, techniques that may be used in the objective evaluation of obstruction. In this article, the most frequently used 9 basic surgical techniques are presented. Keywords: Surgery, nasal obstructionTurkiye Klinikleri J Med Sci 2006, 26:189-197
