Prolonged recovery period, erythema and potential complications of the method urged some patients and physicians to seek for an alternative treatment concept, which is safer and less invasive. Treatment of epidermal and dermal components of photodamaged skin in separate sessions has been recently proposed as an alternative approach. Selective thermal damage of papillary and upper reticular dermis using various lasers, light sources, or radiofrequency combined with a cooling device while sparing the epidermis constitutes the basis of non-ablative dermal remodeling. Although the recovery period and complication rate have been minimized and promising outcomes have been achieved with this technology, the ideal treatment parameters and candidates have not been determined yet. Keywords: Skin aging, lasersTurkiye Klinikleri J Med Sci 2006, 26:78-86
