Guanylyl cyclases and cGMP-mediated signaling cascades play a central role in the regulation of diverse (patho-) physiological processes, including vascular smooth muscle motility, intestinal fluid and electrolyte homeostasis, as well as retinal photo-transduction. An understanding of the stages of the cGMP pathway and their relationships to individual disease processes may prove to be useful both diagnostically and therapeutically. Keywords: cGMP, guanylate cyclase, protein kinase, nitric oxideTurkiye Klinikleri J Med Sci 2005, 25:678-687
