Malnutrition is defined as “lack of nutrition” or “over nutrition” caused by insufficient, unbalanced, or excessive intake of nutrients by the body. It is estimated that there are about 149 million children under five years old suffering from chronic malnutrition in the world. In addition to that, 13 million children die because of malnutrition every year. In this study, the accessible data about children under five years of age with risk of malnutrition were evaluated. Some suggestions were also discussed in terms of solving this problem. The cross sectional studies discussed were conducted between 1989-96 and they all covered children under five years old. According to these studies, malnutrition prevalence was between 2.2% and 14.5%. The results of the studies highlighted that malnutrition is still an important health problem for this age group. Keywords: Child nutrition, Malnutrition, PrevalenceTurkiye Klinikleri J Med Sci 2003, 23:420-429
