Endoscopic Approach In Subperiosteal Orbital Abscesses: Case Reports

Subperiosteal orbital abscess is known to be the most common serious complication of acute sinusitis. There is a collection of pus between the periostium and the lamina papyracea except the periostium of the orbit. Surgical management is mandatory besides intravenous antibiotic treatment when it is confirmed by clinical and radiological findings. Recently open surgical procedures and endoscopical surgical approach are used in surgical treatment of subperiosteal orbital abscess. In this study, we present three subperiosteal orbital abscess cases due to acute sinusitis which were treated with endoscopic approach and discussed the advantages of endoscopic technique over open surgical treatment with the relevant literature.Keywords: Orbit, abscess, endoscopy, surgery, therapeuticsTurkiye Klinikleri J Med Sci 2005, 25:455-459
