Management Of Candidiasis Andpityrosporum Ovale Infections
Muammer EŞREFOĞLU*
*Prof.Dr., İnönü Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi Dermatoloji AD, MALATYA Candidiasis is an infection caused by yeast-like fungi. In-fections caused by Candida species have increased in preva-lence worldwide. Candida species produce a broad range of infections, ranging from non-life-threatening mucocutaneous illness to invasive processes that may involve virtually any organ. These infections range from mucosal candidiasis, in-cluding oropharyngeal and eosophageal candidiasis to more widespread and deep-seated infection involving internal or-gans, which is frequently observed in immunocompromised patients.Pityrosporum ovale is a member of the normal human cutaneous flora in adults but also associated with several skin diseases such as pityriasis versicolor, pityrosporum folliculitis, and seborrhoeic dermatitis. The effect of antifungal treatment is often dramatic. Such a broad range of infections requires an equally broad range of therapeutic strategies. There are many ways of both treating these infections, topically and systematically, and prevention. This document summarizes current knowledge about treatment of multiple forms of candidiasis and pytrosporium infections. Keywords: Candidiasis, Malassezia, TherapeuticsTurkiye Klinikleri J Med Sci 2003, 23:342-352
