Materials and Methods: Patients with Glasgow coma score 7 or less with closed head injury, subarachnoid haemor-rhage or cerebral edema were included in this study. Ex-clusion criteria were as follows; patients requiring emer-gency surgery, patients suffering systemic surgical pa-thology or patients with local pathology hindering the in-sertion of intracranial pressure transducer.
Results: In 41 cases with intracranial pressure monitor we found 5 complications in 4 patients (9.75%). The com-plications were; incorrect insertion of transduser (one pa-tient, 2.44%), breaking out of the transducer during pa-tient transport (two patients, 4.87%) and infection (two patients, 4.87%).
Conclusion: Complication rate of intracranial pressure moni-toring in the comatose patients is low. This method is helpful in guiding treatment during intensive care unit follow up.Keywords: Intracranial pressure, ComplicationsTurkiye Klinikleri J Med Sci 2003, 23:289-294
