Atrophoderma Of Pasini And Pierini
İbrahim KÖKÇAM*
*Yrd.Doç.Dr., Fırat Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi Dermatoloji AD, ELAZIĞ Purpose: Idiopathic atrophoderma of Pasini and Pierini is an uncommon form of dermal atrophy that is characterized by slightly depressed hyperpigmented well-demarcated patches mainly on the trunk. The lesions usually are non-inflamed and asymptomatic. The etiology of the disease is unclear. Whether idiopathic atrophoderma of Pasini and Pierini is a distinct entity or a variant of localized scleroderma is still disputed. Some authors believe that the disease is a distinct clinical entity. There is no effective therapy. The disorder usually is self-limiting. Case: A 28-year-old woman presented with a 6-year history of persistent and progressive skin lesions. Physical examination revealed different diameters, sharply demarcated, depressed and brown plaques on her lumba-sacral and the back regions. Serum anti-Borrelia burgdorferi antibodies (IgM and IgG) were negative. Histopathologic examination of biopsy specimen was found correlated with idiopathic atrophoderma of Pasini and Pierini. Diminished, thinned fragment of elastic fibers in the dermis were shown by Verhoeff elastic staining. Conclusion: We present a patient with the clinic and histopathologic features of idiopathic atrophoderma of Pasini and Pierini and review the literature. Keywords: Scleroderma, Localized, AtrophyTurkiye Klinikleri J Med Sci 2003, 23:234-237
