***Doç.Dr., Ankara Numune Hastanesi Anesteziyoloji ve Reanimasyon Kliniği Şefi, ANKARA Purpose: In this study we compared the effects of laryngeal mask airway (LMA) insertion and emergence from anesthesia with sevoflurane and propofol. 30 pediatric patients who underwent surgery for burn scheduled. Materials and Methods: In Grup I (n=15), patients induced with intravenous fentanyl/propofol and maintained with propofol infusion/N2O/O2 mixture. In Grup II (n=15), patients induced with fentanyl and sevoflurane inhalation with face mask and maintained with sevoflurane/N2O/O2 mixture. Hemodynamic monitorisation were established. LMA insertion conditions, the times of induction, emergence, orientation, response to the verbal commands and discharge from the recovery room were recorded. Complications such as coughing, arrythmias, laryngospasm, nausea, emesis and shivering were noted before and after LMA.Results: There were no difference between the groups in regard to peroperative hemodynamic data, induction and recovery periods and complications (p>0.05).Conclusion: We concluded that sevoflurane can be an alternative agent to propofol for induction and maintenance of anesthesia when being used with LMA.Keywords: Laryngeal Masks, Propofol, Methyl EthersTurkiye Klinikleri J Med Sci 2003, 23:200-203
