** Prof.Dr., Selçuk Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi Histoloji Embriyoloji AD, KONYA Purpose: Our aim of study is to explain the morphological features of apoptosis at leucocytes, stimulated by heat and stained with classical histochemical staining method. Materials and Methods: Blood samples, smeared on clear slides, were heated to 43 oC, stained with Hematoxylin-Eosin and evaluated under light microscope. Results: After beginning to heat, during first 30 minutes we had determined cellular membrane abnormalities and swelling. 1 hour later apoptotic bodies was appeared in the cytoplasm. Conclusion: So many methods including classical histochemistry, immunohistochemistry, flow cytometry etc., were developed by scientists to identify apoptosis in tissues. However, classical histochemistry is useful because of inexpensiveness and practical. But, this method is preferred only rutin laboratory studies because of low sensitivity and also it needs to experienced person. Keywords: Apoptosis, Physiological cell death, Histochemistry, Hematoxylin-EosinTurkiye Klinikleri J Med Sci 2002, 22:258-261
