The Hepatic Stellate Cells ( Ito Cells )

The hepatic stellate cells lies within the space of Disse. These cells are known under a variety of names as Ito cell, fat-storing cell, lipocyte, perisinusoidal cell. The hepatic stellate cells and the myofibroblast-like cells derived from them have various functions. They indicate various activations in acute and chronic liver disease, vitamin A intoxication and liver tumours. Current data on stellate cells is derived primarily from animal models. Information on stellate cells in human liver pathology is still scanty. The purpose of this study, is to put together the knowns about Ito cell and is contribute the studies on this area in future.Keywords: Adipocytes, HepatocytesTurkiye Klinikleri J Med Sci 2002, 22:342-348
