******Dr., İzmir Atatürk Eğitim ve Araştırma Hastanesi 1. İç Hastalıkları Kliniği, İZMİR SummaryPurpose: In this study, we aimed to investigate the effect of EF (ejection fraction) level on the development of CAIN (Contrast agent induced nephropathy). Materials and Methods: 43 male, 37 female patients, mean age 58.12 ± 8.8 years were admitted to Cardiology Clinic of Izmir Atatürk Training and Research Hospital for coronary angiographic evaluation were included into the study. Patients were divided into 3 groups according to EF measurements; 30-40% (first group), 40-50% (second group), 50% and higher (third group). The patients' serum creatinine levels were measured before and 48 hours after the coronary angiography. Results: There was no significant difference between clinical and biochemical parameters among patients. As a result, we found that there was no statistical difference concerning the development of CAIN among the 3 groups. One patient in group I (5.9%), two patients in group II (%7.1) and three patients in group III developed CAIN.Conclusion: As a result, we found that there was no statistical difference concerning the development of CAIN among the 3 groups, thus, indicating that in patients with EF level more than 30% EF values do not show any significant effect on developing CAIN.Keywords: Kidney Diseases, Contrast Media, Stroke Volume, Coronary AngiographyTurkiye Klinikleri J Med Sci 2003, 23:104-107
