Acute Visual Loss

Acute loss of vision, which is an ophthalmic emergency, is sudden visual loss which may be unilateral or bilateral, transient or permanent. A systematic approach is necessary to reach the correct diagnosis in a patient with acute visual loss. A detailed history is the first and most important step in diagnosis. Good prognosis may be obtained by a prompt investigational work-up and treatment.
