Üroloji Kliniği, ANKARA In this study, stages of renal cell cancer determined on preoperative CT scans were compared with those determined on pathological examination using TNM classification with respect to accuracy rates in 73 having proven to have renal cell cancer on pathological examination. On CT, the size, perinephric dissemination, venous invasion, lymph node metastasis and proximal and distant organ metastases were investigated. In cases in which stages of cancer were determined based on the above criteria, the disease was staged according to results from pathological examination of specimens obtained during operation or biopsy specimens in some cases. The specifity and sensitivity rates of CT were determined in accordance with the specific criteria for the tumor. Overall, sensitivity rate was found to be 68.5% for all stages. Although CT is the most frequently used imaging method in renal cancers at present, it was concluded that physicians should also use other imaging methods before reaching a decision especially in cases with indications for partial nephrectomy or which were thought to be inoperable. Keywords: Carcinoma, Renal Cell, Neoplasm StagingTurkiye Klinikleri J Med Sci 2002, 22:105-108
