Materials and Methods: This is a crosssectional study performed at the Emergency Service of the GMMA Training Hospital in the first weeks of the January, April, July, and October in the 2000. A standard questionnaire including questions about patients’ sociodemographic characteristics, trauma features and medical examination results was used. The questionnaire was administered by researchers during face to face interview with patients or their accompaniers depending on their age and health status. Results: The prevalence of the patients who applied to the emergency service with trauma is 17.8 %. It was determined that most frequent period was between 1601-2400 hours; the most common places were streets or parks and the most frequent cause was falling. It is found that head and neck area of the body is the most affected area and most of patients with trauma were treated as outpatients. It was determined that only a few of the patients were drunk at the time of the trauma. House traumas occurred more frequent in children than in adults and traumas with sharp and incisive tools were more frequent in adults. Conclusion: We found that the prevalence of the applications to Emergency Service of GMMA Training Hospital was lower with respect to similar studies, which were performed in our country and in other countries. However, the trauma features were found to be similar to each other. Keywords: Training Hospital, Trauma and injury, Emergency Service, PrevalenceTurkiye Klinikleri J Med Sci 2002, 22:156-161
