Surgical Treatment Routes Of Thoracic Outlet Syndrome

Thoracic outlet syndrome (TOS); is a syndrome with compression at the thoracic outlet of syndrome arteria subclavia, vena subclavia and brachial plexus, and composed of different symptoms. The basic factor which is responsible for this condition is compression of the thoracic outlet and neurovascular structures. There are many approachments in TOS treatment. After the exact diagnosis, conservative treatment should be carried out and results should be evaluated, Surgical treatment should be carried out when conservative treatment has failed. Among the surgical treatment routes; the most common route is resection of first rib and cervical rib, if it exists. In various series with the resection of first rib and cervical rib, up to 97% success ratio is achived in TOS.Keywords: Thoracic Outlet Syndrome, Surgical Procedures, OperativeTurkiye Klinikleri J Med Sci 2003, 23:89-93
