*** Doç.Dr., Ankara Numune Eğitim ve Araştırma Hastanesi 4.KBB Kliniği, ANKARA Routine use of videolaryngostroboscopy (VLS) in otolaryngology clinics facilitated the diagnosis of voice disorders. This study contains videolaryngostroboscopic evaluation of 70 people for respiration and voice profiles who were comprising of 45 patients with the complaint of hoarseness and 25 controls. Criteria as voice quality, glottal attack, respiratory pattern (S/Z ratio, maximum phonation time) were used for evaluation of respiratory and voice profiles of the patients. Mean maximum phonation time (MFT) was 11.7 seconds for females and 12.6 seconds for males. Mean S/Z ratio was 1.47 for females and 1.29 for males. Functional voice disorder was encountered in 20 patients (44%). Thirteen of them (65%) had an organic laryngeal pathology whereas 7 patients (35%) did not have any organic disorders. Most frequently encountered organic pathology with VLS was Reinke edema (37%). It is concluded that VLS is an ideal tool for diagnosis, treatment and follow-up of organic and functional disorders of larynx and it must be used routinely. Keywords: Functional voice disorder, VideolaryngostroboscopyTurkiye Klinikleri J Med Sci 2002, 22:124-128
