Prevalance Of Intestinal Parasites And Associated Factors Of This Intwo Primary School Which Have Different Socioeconomic Level
H.Emel ERÇEVİK*, Aysun İDİL*** Uz.Dr., Halk Sağlığı Uzmanı,** Prof.Dr., Ankara Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi Halk Sağlığı AD, Öğr.Üy., ANKARA This study has been performed in two different primary education schools which are within the area of Park Educational Health Units affiliated to Group of Abidinpaşa which is the research and survey area of Ankara University Faculty of Medicine, Public Health Department for the purpose of determining prevalance of the intestinal parasites, factors affecting on them. For the purpose of determining intestinal parasites, methods of direct examination of the feces, floating and adhesive tape have been implemented. When both schools are evaluated with respect to prevalance or intestinal parasites, intestinal parasites prevalance in Ertuğrulgazi Primary Education School is %10.6 and that in Şahinbey Primary Education School is %27.9. Average prevalance of intestinal parasites in all of the participant students is %18.4.When the relations between intestinal parasites and some risk factors are evaluated, a significant correlation is found for the following factors: education level of the parents, income, having social security, previous parasites background and having no treatment therefore living in a squatter house, toilet being outside the house, not washing before the meal, not washing after the toilet, common use of the clothes like pyjamas, underwear etc., not washing vegetables and fruit before eating through the same dish with the family members.Key Words: School children, IntestinalKeywords: School children, Intestinal parasites, Risk factorsTurkiye Klinikleri J Med Sci 2002, 22:113-118
