Except one inoperable patient, all patients received postoperative cranial local field external radiotherapy with Co-60 device. Total of 48 to 66 Gy (median 56 Gy) radio-therapy doses were given with 2 Gy fraction dose. Early and late morbidities related to treatment were evaluated according to EORTC/RTOG morbidity scale. Results: Twenty-four male and thirteen female patients, total of 37 followed-up 7 years (ranged 3 to 18 years. Median age was 57 years (23 to 68 years). Recurrence was observed in one patient treated with only radiotherapy, in three patients reoperated for recurrence, and in three patients who had malign histopathologic features. Time to recurrence after treatment (radiotherapy) was 3.8 years. Total local control rate was 81%. 5- year and 10-year survival rates were 82% and 70%, respectively. Alopecia was observed in all patients. Although no cranial nerve pathology was observed, one patient who was reirradiated for recurrence had focal glial necrosis. Conclusion: As a result, conventional radiotherapy can be successfully and safely applied for meningioma postoperatively. Keywords: Meningioma, Malignant, Recurrence, RadiotherapyTurkiye Klinikleri J Med Sci 2002, 22:109-112
