In this study, we translated the South East Thames didactic (SETh-DKD) and South East Thames interactive (SETh-IKD) course evaluation instruments into Turkish and assessed their reliability. Materials and Methods: SETh-DKD and SETh-IKD are composed of 9 and 18 items respectively. A team of 4 persons translated them into Turkish. Using these translations, we developed a final text. An independent translator translated this text back into English. The Turkish SETh-DKD and SETh-IKD were applied after didactic and interactive lectures to 94 and 98 phaseI medical students respectively. The results were evaluated using the SPSS package program. Results: The back-translated text was in concordance with the original texts. Some students experienced problems in responding to items 1 and 16 of SETh-IKD. Cronbach alpha values for SETh-IKD and SETh-DKD were calculated as 0.92 and 0.74 respectively. Conclusion: We conclude that, the reliability of both instruments is adequate but the validity of SETh-IKD should be discussed further. As a result, we suggest the application of the Turkish forms of SETh-IKD and SETh-DKD for obtaining feedback from students after didactic and interactive lectures. However, taking cultural and language differences into account, more valid instruments should be developed for Turkish medical students. Keywords: Medical education, Feedback, SEThTurkiye Klinikleri J Med Sci 2002, 22:152-155
